Grande has been manifesting this for years: The pop icon is a known Wicked superfan. Her 2018 cover of “The Wizard and I” is beloved, and she’s openly raved about her passion for the show. When asked about a potential Wicked movie in 2019, Grande said, “I would do anything. I don’t wanna talk about it ’cause I’m gonna cry. I would do anything…. I would stand outside the producers’ studios with coffees every morning waiting for them to acknowledge me and begging them [to let me] sing ‘Defying Gravity’ for them.”
Grande continued, “I love that musical so much. Whenever I’m nervous about anything, I listen front to back.”
Do we have a first look? On April 16, 2023, both Grande and Erivo shared photos in costume as Glinda and Elphaba respectively. The portrait of Erivo as Elphaba is shot from behind, completely obscuring her face. We can, however, see a small swath of her signature green skin, as well as her witch’s hat and broom.
In the film still of Ariana Grande in character as Glinda, we can see the pop star ascending a staircase in a flouncy pink gown with her newly blonde tresses styled into an updo that cascades down her back.
